Indra Jatra Auspicious moment made public
byBy Suman NeupaneThe Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee has announced the auspicious times for this year's Indra Jatra festival.
The auspicious time to set out for the forest to cut the tree for the Indra Jatra “Lingo” (ceremonial pole) is 9:53 AM on Sunday, September 13 (Bhadra 28).
The auspicious time for felling the tree is 8:47 PM. There is a long-standing tradition of cutting the tree for the “Indradhwaja Lingo” from the Chittapol forest in Bhaktapur.
The Committee stated that the auspicious time for bringing the “Lingo” into the city is 8:05 AM on Saturday, September 19 (Ashwin 3). The auspicious time for the “Indradhwajotthan” (erection of the Indra flag pole) is 7:47 AM on Wednesday, September 23 (Ashwin 7).
Similarly, the procession through the Lower Tole will take place on Friday, September 25 (Ashwin 9), the main day of Indra Jatra.
The procession through the Upper Tole will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 (Ashwin 10). On Tuesday, September 29 (Ashwin 13), the Nanicha Yatra will take place, featuring a chariot pulled exclusively by women.
The Committee has announced that the auspicious time for lowering the Indra Dhwaja (ceremonial pole) is 9:25 PM on the same day.
The 13-day-long Indra Jatra concludes that night after the Head of State pays homage to the living deities—Kumari, Ganesh, and Bhairav—and receives “Prasad” (a gift from the gods).
