Before the Malla Dynasty ruled Nepal, Sankhu was said to be a separate kingdom. Its historical Durbar square (Layaku) is still preserved. The temple of Bajrayogini (Khadgayogini) is one of the identities of Sankhu. It is situated on a hillside.
Nagarkot is a famous place to see the mountain ranges at sunrise/sunset. It lies at an altitude of, 2175 me-ters and is located 32 km east of Kathmandu. From this place, one can have a complete panoramic view of the snowy ranges of Annapurna, Langtang, Choba Bhamre, Gaurishanker, Number Karyolung, etc.
