Mount Everest, at 8,848 meters (29,029 ft), is the highest mountain on earth, located on the border with Nepal. Several major rivers have their source in the Tibetan Plateau. These include Yangtze, Yellow River, Indus River, Mekong, Ganges, Salween and the Yarlung Tsangpo River (Brahmaputra River). The Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, along the Yarlung Tsangpo River, is between the deepest and longest canyons in the world. The Indus and Brahmaputra rivers originate from a lake (Tib: Tso Mapham) in Western Tibet, near Mount Kailash. The mountain is a holy pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Tibetans. The Hindus believe the mountain to be the abode of Lord Shiva. The Tibetan name for Mt. Kailash is Khang Rinpoche. Tibet has numerous high-altitude lakes reference to in Tibetan as tso or co. These include Qinghai Lake, Lake Manasarovar, Namtso, Pangong Tso, Yamdrok Lake, Siling Co, Lhamo La-tso, Lumajangdong Co, Lake Puma Yumco, Lake Paiku, Lake Rakshastal, Dagze Co and Dong Co. The Qinghai Lake (Koko Nor) is the largest lake in the People's Republic of China.

Asian Hiking Team begin our tour to Everest Base Camp drive across the Tibetan hinterland to Nepal border visiting Everest Base Camp continues drive an ancient towns of Gyangtse, Shigatse by exploring the sights and sounds of the fabled city of Lhasa and flight back to Kathmandu. We are probably one of the few Nepalese outfits that engage our own Sherpa staffs for all our trek services in the Tibetan Himalayas.

Day by Day Itinerary (Kathmandu Everest Base Camp Kathmandu by overland)

Day 01: Kathmandu to Nyalam (3700m) 156km.

Day 02: Nyalam to Tingri (4300M)225 KM.

Day 03: Tingri to Ronbuk (4980m) 90 Km Aprox.

Day 04: Ronbuk to Everest BC – Shigatse (3950m) 334km.

Day 05: Shigatse to Gyantse (3950m) 90 km.

Day 06: Gyantse to Lhasa (3650m)- 261km.

Day 07/ day 08: Two Full Days Sightseeing tour in Lhasa city.

Day 09: Lhasa to Kathmandu.

Note: After earthquake in 2015 overland trip is closed. 

Day by Day Itinerary (flight in/out - Kathmandu to Lhasa - Everest Base Camp - Lhasa - Kathmandu)

Day 01: Flight from Nepal or China - arrival in Lhasa (3,650m/11,972ft).

Day 02: Lhasa sightseeing: Potala Palace, Norbulingka Palace and Tibet Museum: 5 - 6 hours.

Day 03: Lhasa Sightseeing: Sera Monastery, Drepung Monastery, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Bazaar: 5 - 6 hours.

Day 04: Lhasa to Gyantse (3,950m/12,956ft): 5 - 6 hours.

Day 05: Gyantse to Shigatse (3,900m/12,795 ft): 2 hours.

Day 06: Shigatse to Everest Base Camp and return to Rongbuk (5,000m/16,400ft) via Sakya: 8 - 9 hours.

Day 07: Rongbuk to Lhasa overnight in Lhasa: 9-10 hours.

Day 08: Final Departure to Nepal or China.
