Himchuli peak 6,441 m is located in the western part of Nepal Annapurna region connected to Annapurna South forming a massive south facing wall.
The Himchuli was first submitted by an American Peace Corps Expedition under the leadership of Craig Anderson in October 1971 via its southeast face.
Himchuli peak climbing offers an outstanding view of the other neighboring peaks, meadows and traditional settlements. The mountain is classified as a trekking peak by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), but it is considered one of the more difficult trekking peaks to climb due to route finding difficulties and dangers from rock fall and seracs. Depending on the weather conditions, there can also be significant avalanche risk.
Himchuli has two climbing routes; South-East Face Route and North-West Face Route. The South-East face route is crossing the Hinko Cave. Establishing the first camp somewhere above the valley Hinko Valley, a further two camps are usually necessary to make it to the top. Although not technically extreme, that route is exposed to rock fall and is a complicated route finding experience. North-West Face Route; the base camp is set as Annapurna South Base camp. From the Annapurna Base Camp in the Sanctuary and a further two camps be necessary to complete this ascent. It is noticeable that it requires more experience with judging snow levels and general mountain conditions.
To entrée Himchuli base camp, we follow the Annapurna sanctuary trekking trail up to Hinko and climb a very steep hill side to grassy meadows, where we establish the base camp to climb the peak via the South - East face (which is the normal route). In most cases, three camps are set up for the approach to the summit of Himchuli. The other route is via the North - West Face, for which the base camp is set up at Annapurna South base camp near the Annapurna base camp lodges.
Asian Hiking Team's itinerary brings you to Annapurna South Base Camp. We have one extra day for acclimatization in Annapurna base camp, then we return to Deurali and turn to the right side from Hinko. We recommend climbing from the southeast face, it takes two days extra but a comparative easy way. From Hinko Camp to make High Camp, Camp I. We push the summit from Camp I. We have fixed departure every year, please check the date on our site. If you have own group or individual want to climb Himchuli let us know.
