Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park (159 sq km) is situated on the northern fringe of Kathmandu. The area was gazetted as the country's ninth national park in 2002. Prior to its declaration as a national park, it was managed under the Shivapuri Watershed Development Board, and was later declared as Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve.
Nagarjun lies in a transition zone between subtropical and temperate climates. The vegetation consists of a variety of natural forest types including pine, oak, rhododendron etc., depending on altitude and aspect. Recorded wildlife in the park includes mammalian species such as Himalayan Black bear, leopard, jungle cat, and rhesus monkey. The park is also home to 177 species of birds, including at least 9 threatened species, 102 species of butterflies to a number of rare and endangered species, and 129 species of mushroom.
Our day hiking, pick up from your hotel to Balaju water garden. We will check our national park permit, then continue walking to the Durbar area. Passing through the Nagarjun National park's huge jungle, we will reach the top of the hill of Nagarjun. We can see the Annapurna range on the right-hand side continues Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang to DorjeLakpa range on the left if the weather is clear.
Day Tour Itinerary
08:00 AM: Drive to Balaju water garden (Nagarjun Entrance gate), 4 KM, 20 minutes.
8.30 AM: Hiking start, all the way climbs to Nagarjun Hill Top takes 3–4 hours.
12.30: PM: Explore the view tower and have lunch.
02.00 PM: Start hiking all the way, return to Balaju 2–3 hours same way.
04-05 PM: Drive by car to Hotel 20 minutes.
