Kami Rita Sherpa scales Mt Everest for record 22 times

A 48-year-old Sherpa climber stood atop the world’s highest mountain for the 22nd time today 16 May 2018 becoming the only mountaineer in the world to hold the record for most summits on Mt Everest.

According to Mingma Sherpa,, Kami Rita Sherpa from Thame village of Solukhumbu district successfully climbed Mt Everest at around 8:30 am from Nepal side.

According to the base camp officials, Kami Rita started his summit push from Camp IV with nine other Chinese climbers on Tuesday night and reached on Wednesday morning 16 May 2018.

Last year, Sherpa climbed Mt Everest for the 21st time tying him with Apa Sherpa and Phurba Tashi Sherpa for the world record.

Kami Rita has already climbed most of the peaks above 8,000 m including K2, Cho-oyu, Lhoste and Annapurna among others. “All climbers have now been descending to the lower camps safely.”
